Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) has signed contracts with  Karlovac County, starting the realisation of the largest investments in school infrastructure in the history of this county. This involves financing of seven capital projects with a total value of almost EUR 27 million, for which HBOR has provided financial support in the amount of EUR 22.7 million.

As part of this investment cycle, HBOR will support financially the construction and equipping of the three-part sports hall of Elementary School „Ivan Goran Kovačić“ Duga Resa, the school sports halls of Elementary School „Cetingrad“, Elementary School „Barilović“ and Elementary School „Antun Klasinc“ Lasinja, the extension of the First Elementary School Ogulin, the reconstruction of the Karlovac Grammar School as well as the construction and equipping of the sports hall of Elementary School „Josipdol - Branch school Oštarije. It is important to emphasise that when implementing the above projects, HBOR allows an early repayment of the loan for the part related to the European funds without charging a fee, and as the grant funds arrive, the County will be able to reduce the debt amount.

The amount of EUR 22.7 million, along with grants, will be invested in public infrastructure, especially that intended for children and young people. First of all, there are school sports halls that are of exceptional importance - it is a pledge for the future of this entire region. In the last ten years, HBOR has financed over 400 projects in this county in the amount of EUR 105 million, and now, in one package, we finance projects worth EUR 22.7 million. This figure clearly shows how large an infrastructure package this is and how much will be done in a relatively short time“, said HBOR's Member of the Management Board Josip Pavković on that occasion.

HBOR has been selected as the financial partner of Karlovac County through a public invitation, through which it has offered the most favourable lending terms and conditions - a fixed interest rate ranging from 2.44 to 2.59 percent, depending on the size of the project, with a repayment period of up to 15 years (or 5 years for the hall in Oštarije).

These projects will enable the modernisation of school buildings, improvement of conditions for teaching and sports, and single-shift classes.  This is the largest investment in education since the establishment of the County and another step towards creating equal conditions for education in all our schools.  I must emphasise that the halls we build are not only for teaching, but are also very much looked forward to by athletes, recreational athletes, clubs, cultural and artistic groups, associations and many others. All works should be completed by 30 June 2026, and our policy of investing in education and school infrastructure will continue, because we want to provide children with the best possible conditions for development and success“, said County Prefect  Martina Furdek Hajdin.

In the context of these investments, HBOR once again confirms its role as a key financial partner in local community development, ensuring support for projects that bring long-term social and economic benefits.
